The VULCAN Development Kit
for Embedded Linux features a compact
implementation of the GNU/Linux operating system based on the proven
2.6 kernel. This has been optimised for use on Arcom hardware platforms and is pre-loaded and configured into the embedded Flash. This
offers an embedded version of Linux with a proven background, combined
with a high reliability journaling Flash File system.
The Development Kit gives you an incredible range of functions to enable you to create low power solutions for secure wired/wireless remote terminal units, industrial network gateways and data acquisition systems. The Development Kit includes the low power 533MHz IXP425 based
VULCAN PC104 single board computer fitted with 64Mbytes of DRAM, 16Mbytes of AMD MirrorBit Flash and 256Kbytes of SRAM. The board is fitted inside a low cost rugged industrial compact enclosure
(VULCAN ICE) with breakout cables and tamper detect switch. The
VULCAN ICE has sufficient space to fit one PC/104 expansion module or an embedded modem. The kit also includes an AC PSU, cables to connect to your host system, and a comprehensive information/software CD.
Arcom
uses RedBoot as a simple, fast, reliable mechanism for initialising the VULCAN
and loading the embedded Linux image from the onboard Flash.
RedBoot also allows you to download and re-programme the VULCAN
with a
recompiled Linux operating system image. Arcom creates and supports the
embedded Linux distribution using an experienced in-house development
team – that means you get total product support directly from Arcom.
Arcom recognises
that Linux is used extensively in deeply embedded solutions and that
secure communications is an important part of any application involved
in control and monitoring functions. Many users of telnet, rlogin and
ftp may not realise that password information is transmitted across
the Internet unencrypted. Arcom uses OpenSSH to encrypt all traffic
(including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping,
connection hijacking, and other network-level attacks. OpenSSH can
also provide a variety of secure tunneling capabilities and
authentication methods.
