Low cost IXP420 XScale® Single Board Computer

The VULCAN-Lite is a low power single board computer based on the Intel® IXP420 XScale® network processor. The IXP420 is an implementation of the ARM compliant, Intel XScale microarchitecture combined with communication peripherals including, 2 high speed Ethernet MACs, 2 high speed serial ports, a local PCI interface and DMA controller.

The VULCAN-Lite board adds to the basic IXP420 features with a real time clock and a CompactFlash (CF+) expansion port for memory and network cards.

The VULCAN-Lite is configured for cost sensitive, high volume applications. It is recommended that initial development is carried out using a standard
VULCAN PC/104 board and the embedded
Linux Development Kit. Arcom uses RedBoot™, a firmware utility based on the eCos
RTOS, to initialise the board. This also serves as the boot manager for embedded Linux as well as a download and debug tool for embedded Linux applications.
