EPIC format 520MHz PXA270 XScale Single Board Computer

The ZEUS is an ultra low power EPIC size single board computer based on the Intel® 520MHz PXA270 XScale® RISC processor. The PXA270 is an implementation of the ARM compliant, Intel XScale microarchitecture combined with a comprehensive set of integrated peripherals including, a flat panel graphics controller, USB host/client controller, interrupt controller and multiple serial ports. The ZEUS includes a site for a variety of wireless modems and a GPS receiver, and has been designed to create cost effective solutions in asset monitoring, asset tracking, mobile terminals and network communication controllers.

The ZEUS board has been designed as a cost effective solution for asset monitoring, vehicle tracking and mobile information display applications. The board has been designed to take advantage of the power saving modes of the PXA270 processor and all the associated peripherals. Using Intel XScale technology ensures the board can achieve a typical power consumption of 2W (excluding modems etc) and a low power, sleep mode of just 100mW.

The ZEUS board includes a TFT/STN flat panel graphics controller, onboard soldered SDRAM and resident Flash, dual 10/100baseTx Ethernet ports, 7 serial ports, I²C controller, dual USB host controller, USB client, AC97 audio/codec, CompactFlash interface (CF+), SDIO, and a standard PC104 bus expansion connector. The onboard PSU is designed for use with both 12V and 24V vehicle power systems. Alternatively, the ZEUS can be powered from a single 5V supply (onboard DC/DC PSU depopulated). Systems used for asset tracking need both wireless communications and GPS (global positioning system) data. The ZEUS is available with a range of adapter modules to support a variety of GSM/GPRS, CDMA or iDEN wireless modems. Custom specific radio interfaces (such as Bluetooth or satellite modems) can easily and quickly be incorporated into new module designs. The ZEUS is based on a compact, industry standard EPIC footprint measuring 165mm x 115mm (6.5 in x 4.5 in).

The ZEUS is supported with Development Kits for the leading embedded operating systems including embedded Linux and Windows CE 5.0. The Linux solution uses RedBoot as a bootloader, boot manager and also serves as a T-FTP download tool for embedded Linux applications. To speed up the process of system integration, you can purchase individual cables and the various mobile modem adapter modules used within the Development Kits.

One of the practical issues to be resolved by OEM users is the connection of displays from different manufacturers. The ZEUS includes an onboard LVDS transmitter to drive remote displays located up to 5m from the ZEUS. A complementary adapter is also available to convert from LVDS back to parallel digital. This adapter is particularly useful for small form factor displays which do not support LVDS input.

Allows easy connection between the ZEUS digital flat panel output connector and most parallel digital flat panel displays.	Converts the ZEUS flat panel output to a standard analogue RGB VGA signal for use with a regular monitor.	Converts the LVDS signals from the ZEUS back to parallel digital data to drive a parallel digital flat panel display.
